Glen Van Antwerp – Cedar Fan Carving
Here is Glen’s crash course in fan carving. He is the reason I got into fan carving about 5 year ago.

These photos are from the Macomb Daily photo archives. I did not make the paper, but some photos were still published online. Here is the link: http://media.macombdaily.com/2015/07/19/old-mill-art-and-crafts-festival-in-utica-2/#23
It is nice to get some professional photos on the blog.
Where it all started…
So, one winter Saturday morning, I got my coffee, sat on the couch, and tuned in to one of my favorite woodworking shows, The Woodwright’s Shop. A show where woodworking is done without power tools. Looking forward to seeing what type of furniture I was going to watch get built that day, a fellow Michigander (Glen Van Antwerp) appeared on the North Carolina based show, with these fan-carvings. With a bit of disappointment, I continued to watch. What I saw next absolutely amazed me. Watching this art called fan-carving. I was amazed! Within minutes of watch the show, I grabbed a piece of cedar and started whittling away and I made my first fan-carving. I have been hooked ever since. So, this is where it all began. If you have a half hour to kill, it is very interesting to watch. Thank you!
