As I have mentioned before, northern white cedar is the ideal wood to use for fan carving. So where does one fine NWC? Well, it is not than easy to find NWC that has not been kiln dried. I wanted to find a supplier in Michigan and found the great folks at Cedar Log & Lumber Company up in Millersburg, MI. I want to give John a big thanks for helping me find what I needed and provided great customer service. Check out their website, you may find something you need.
I finally put something together to sell some birds. Please check out my link. Thanks.

One of my recent creations. This one turned out pretty good as far as the symmetry goes. It is difficult to get nice balance with the wings due to the wood wanting to rebound back to it’s original position while it is drying. I usually look at the bird throughout the drying process and make adjustments when needed.
this is not the most exciting video, but it shows the magic of the wood fan carving.
