I got my northern white cedar log split up. A mallet and hatchet do the trick. Time to take the blanks to the shaving horse and take a draw knife to them.
Thanks Skip. I have only been doing it for 6 years. I truly enjoy it and talking to about fan carving. Where do you reside? I have not heard of too many fan carvers outside of Michigan. What type of wood do you use? Do you have any pictures of your carvings online? Thanks for looking at my blog.

Hi Tony;
I would like to share some of my fan birds with you. I know very few other carvers that make fan birds and thought it would be fun to excange pictures. I set in a little gift shop on my draw pony making gypsy flowers and fan birds and have fun talking with people and selling my works. Hope to hear from you

Just wanted to say hello and tell you how great you’re fan birds look. I have been carving them myself for some time.
